Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…. The song kept playing in my head as I read, and hugely enjoyed, Snowflake's Big Adventure. Who can't remember their first encounter with the cold, fluffy flakes, melting on your face soft as the clouds? And then cuddling up inside with a steaming cup of cocoa… That is what reading this book feels like.
The story is simple but as with every good story, it represents so much more. That must be why I love it too. Good picture books are not only for small children. If the words and illustrations combine to that special quintessential magic, like Erin Mackey’s and Kathlyn Jones’ in Snowflake’s Big Adventure, I am instantly hooked and drawn in.
